The Augusta Jewish Film Festival presents
1945
1945
On a sweltering summer day in 1945, two black-garbed Orthodox Jewish men arrive at the train station of a small Hungarian village with mysterious boxes labeled "fragrances" just as the village prepares for the wedding of the town clerk’s son. The town clerk fears the men may be heirs of the village's deported Jews and will demand the return of their illegally acquired property, taken during the Holocaust and WWII. Others are afraid more survivors will come, posing a threat to the property and possessions they have claimed as their own. This film shows a complex picture of a society trying to come to terms with the recent horrors they’ve experienced, perpetrated, or just tolerated for personal gain. The film is enhanced by its beautiful yet haunting black and white cinematography. Drama. Hungarian with English subtitles. Run Time: 1 hr. 31 min.
