On February 21, leaders from the Columbia County, Augusta Metro, and Burke County chambers traveled to the Georgia State Capitol to serve as the collective voice of our business community.

The day was filled with insightful discussions and valuable networking opportunities with state legislators. The day commenced with a panel discussion on the Film Industry Incentives featuring panelists Misty Holcomb from Based in Georgia (B.I.G.) Film & Entertainment Alliance, Brandon Reese from the Motion Picture Association, and Matt Campbell from the Coastal Entertainment Alliance. The discussion delved into the economic impact of the film industry and why it’s important for Georgia to maintain its competitiveness.

Political insights were shared by Brian Robinson of Robinson Republic, offering valuable perspectives on the current political climate. The day continued with lunch at the Floyd State Building, joined by members of the Greater Augusta Delegation and the 2024 Class of Leadership Augusta. During lunch, Chancellor Sonny Perdue gave an update on the University System of Georgia.

Following lunch, Commissioner Pat Wilson of the Georgia Department of Economic Development shared key updates and economic initiatives. The group then walked to the Georgia Department of Agriculture Building, where Meg Pirkle, Chief Engineer of the Georgia Department of Transportation, spoke to the group.

The day continued with a presentation from Commissioner Chris Nunn of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, shedding light on the department's initiatives and strategies. Then followed by a panel discussion on Tort Reform which brought diverse perspectives to the forefront, fostering a deeper understanding of this complex issue. The three-chamber group then gathered in the Capitol North Lobby, where attendees engaged in valuable networking opportunities with the delegation and shared key takeaways from the day.

Before leaving, the group had dinner with the delegation from the region and Columbia County Chamber President and CEO, Russell Lahodny, took an opportunity to recognize Representative Jodi Lott for her years of service and presented her with an award on behalf of the three chambers.
