Training our Future Workforce Through a Summer Internship Program

The Columbia County Chamber Foundation is preparing students to meet the needs of businesses in our local community by providing Columbia County high school students a structured internship program. Between the weeks of June 5 and July 28, students will be paired with a local business in the CSRA for an 8-week commitment to work at least 20 hours per week and receive minimum wage in compensation. This year, the program is sponsored by Newsome Electrical Construction.
The students will walk away from their summer with soft skills training and real workplace experience.
In addition to gaining practical work experience, the summer internship program will also provide opportunities for students to network with professionals in their field of interest, develop important soft skills like communication and teamwork, and build their resumes for future job or college applications.
At the beginning of the summer, the Chamber Foundation will host its third annual Signing Banquet at Jabez Hardin Auditorium. Columbia County high school students will be paired with a local business after going through an interview process to find their best match.
During the banquet, students will sign letters of intent reflecting their commitment to the Columbia County Summer Internship program and their designate business; much like signing day for high school athletes.
Some of the employers that will be participating in the 2023 Summer Internship Program include: GIW Industries, CSRA Electrical JATC, CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon, Brush Strokes Quality Painting, and Gymnastics Gold.
