Assistant Chief Engineer

WFXG Fox 54 in Augusta, Georgia, is currently recruiting for a full-time, Assistant Chief Engineer to join our growing news operation.  In this position you are responsible for performing and supervising the maintenance of all broadcast equipment in the WFXG transmission systems. Duties also include serving as the assistant FCC Chief Operator.

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

• Perform maintenance of all RF transmission equipment in the WFXG broadcast systems. This includes troubleshooting and repair of electronic broadcast equipment to the component level.

 

• Responsible for all electronic maintenance at the transmitter plant.

 

 

• Serve as assistant FCC Chief Operator for WFXG. Responsible for compliance with FCC technical rules including EAS and transmitter remote control systems.

 

• Assist with maintenance of RF equipment including microwave equipment, weather radar, and station vehicles. Also includes assistance with the maintenance of various switchers, remote control, monitoring/test equipment, and DTV equipment.

 

• Assist Chief Engineer with planning and design of new and replacement broadcast electronic and computer systems.

 

• Install new equipment into existing plant systems. Perform equipment tests for technical compliance after installation is complete.

 

• Support and assist all other departments’ technical needs to ensure departmental and station goals are achieved.

 

• Assist viewers with off-air or cable signal reception issues. Diagnose problem and recommend solution.

 

• Must be available for on-call emergencies.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

 

 

• Minimum of two-year trade or technical school or Associate’s Degree in the specialized study of electronics theory and maintenance of electronics-based systems or computer science/networking.

 

• At least one-year of prior experience in broadcast operations (Master Control and VTR).

 

• At least eight years of experience in maintaining broadcast RF transmission systems.

 

• Extensive knowledge of all broadcast systems and knowledge of FCC regulations.

 

• Position involves working with high AC, DC, and RF voltages in transmission equipment.

 

• General knowledge and experience with mechanical-based equipment, as well as experience with computers, servers, and networking equipment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Good eyesight and hearing, ability to walk upstairs and sometimes long distances, ability to lift equipment that may exceed 50 pounds, ability to sit for a long period of time, ability to handle often stressful situations under deadline, good manual and overall physical dexterity.
